“Fit India Movement” was launched by the Prime Minister, Sri Narendra Modi on Thursday, 29th August 2019 on the occasion of National Sports Day. It was launched at 10 A.M. amid a colorful ceremony at the Indira Gandhi Stadium Complex in New Delhi. Events included India’s traditional dance performances, martial arts, and sports performances and much more.

Essay – 1 (250 Words)
Fit India scheme was inaugurated on National Sports Day, 29th August, by the Prime Minister of India, Mr. Narendra Modi.
Through the dais, the Prime Minister had appealed to the citizens to adapt to a physically active schedule. He also stressed on the physical benefits of practicing yoga and that it should be an integral part of everyone’s daily routine.
Mr. Modi reiterated as he has done on several occasions, that technology has made us lazy and physically inactive as a result of obesity, diabetes and other ailments are on the rise. He also said that many countries have already realized the need to stay fit and have already started programs like this.
Modi added that one has got to be fit in order to be successful; all the successful persons that we see are physically fit and active.
He also thanked the young sports personalities of India, who have won laurels for the nation and said that they are the future representing a more confident, young and fit India.
A committee headed by Sports Minister Kiren Rijiju is formed to take the movement forward. Mr. Rijiju stated that he is confident that he will be able to take the movement to new heights along with fellow Indians.

Fit India Abhiyan or Fit India Movement is a public movement launched by the Government of India, to address the health issues arising due to a sedentary lifestyle that leads to diseases like diabetes, blood pressure, etc.
The movement aims at encouraging people towards a more active lifestyle for a healthy future. People were asked to exercise regularly, play recreational sports and perform yoga to stay fit.
The opening ceremony was grand, with the Prime Minister inaugurating the movement from Indira Gandhi Stadium Complex, New Delhi. Several other eminent personalities from politics, bureaucracy, sports, and media were present at the launch.
The day is the National Sports Day and also the birth anniversary of Major Dhyanchand; Prime Minister paid tribute to the legendary hockey player of India.
In his speech, the Prime Minister stressed on the need to stay physically active for a healthy and successful future. “If one wants to be successful and free from diseases then it’s imperative to adapt to an active lifestyle”, the Prime Minister added. He also expressed his concern over the increasing number of youngsters getting affected by lifestyle diseases.
The responsibility of taking the movement to new heights is bestowed on Mr. Kiren Rijiju, Minister of State for Sports (Independent charge). The 28 member government committee will be headed by Rijiju and includes secretaries of sports, youth affairs, Education and several other departments.
The committee also has members of the National Sports Federation, members of the Indian Olympic Association (IOA), members of private bodies and several fitness promoters.
