Long and Short Human Rights Day Speech

Speech 1

Hello Friends!

I would like to welcome everyone to the sixth annual celebration of Human Rights Day. Our NGO was established seven years ago with the purpose of protecting the rights of common people as well as supporting the poor and deserted people. For all those who are new to our NGO, I would brief about the background of Human Rights Day. Adopted in the year 1948 by the United Nations General Assembly, it is observed every year on December 10th by the international community. The day is usually marked by high-level political conferences & meetings as well as by cultural events and exhibitions which deal with the issues of human rights.

Our NGO is one of its kind in this district, thus we deal with all types of issues involving protecting and advocating human rights. Like every year, this year too, we will be working around one theme and this year’s theme is ‘Right to education’. This Right recognizes right to free and compulsory primary education for everyone as well as a commitment & responsibility to develop secondary education available to all, especially through the introduction of secondary education free of cost and an obligation to expand equitable and impartial access to higher education, through the development of free higher education.

Education is everyone’s right and it is very critical especially for people staying in rural areas to understand the value of education. In most of the remote areas in our country, parents still feel that girl child is not required to study as they ultimately have to manage home. This is absolutely an unfair expectation as education makes girls stronger and helps them in taking decisions as well as managing home in a better way. It also gives them mental as well as intellectual strength to fight against the ill practices prevalent in our society, such as dowry torture, domestic violence and other crimes against women.

I am proud to share that our NGO has transformed around 100 such villages into more awakened places. With the help of donations received, we have opened primary, secondary as well as higher secondary schools in approximately 89 villages so far and are in the progress of making schools in the remaining 11 villages.

We are getting enormous support and appreciation from several people especially youngsters in our mission. There are many youths, who impart free education involuntarily at these schools and it’s a great beginning, I would say. We have also received the support of the state government for spreading awareness towards education in more and more villages and rural areas. The government has also promised us financial support in opening up schools in more and more villages.

I am thankful to the government that it is fulfilling its duty and supporting noble deeds. Educating people is a great deed and gives me a lot of satisfaction when I see girls going to schools, talking positively about their future, reading news, etc. I feel all the more happy to see the grin on their parents’ faces as they acknowledge the fact now that there is no difference between a girl and a boy child and education is everyone’s right.

In the coming year, we will be targeting 100 more villages and I want volunteers who would like to join the mission. You may give your details at the counter and wait for my mail that will give you more details on the subject. If you have any questions, please contact me over the phone.

Thank You!

Speech 2

Good morning everyone. Thank you for taking out time and being present at this seminar session. We all are gathered here to talk about this special day of human rights.

This day is celebrated as a token to all those who stood up for someone’s rights. Human rights mean the rights which every human being owns. Though to date after years of defining these rights also a few people are not utilizing them and a few people are all set to violate them. It is high time for people to actually stand for their rights. We all have been given the right to vote, right to speech, right to education, right to earn and many more. These rights have been allotted to human beings after many debates and issues. It is our responsibility and right to avail each of the right introduced for us.

There are many human rights specifically announced for the special classes of humans like people with disabilities, SC-ST, etc. We all should support these people to witness their rights so that they can avail benefits from them. At present, there are about 30, yes; 30 human rights declared. These rights are very determined and to the point for the welfare of humans. A few of the top rights that I would name here are: Right to equality, Freedom from discrimination, Right to education, Right to social security, Freedom from belief and religion, etc, etc.

The things that we scream for our social security, education of poor and many more are already addressed by the council and have been declared as a human right for everybody. It is our responsibility to withstand these and create awareness amongst all for adhering and availing these rights for their good and well being. Each of these rights was declared in the year 1948 by the United Nations for the global understanding of how to treat individuals.

10th December every year is celebrated as Human Rights Day. This day is acknowledged as the worldwide declaration of human rights and ensure its continued existence and remembrance as a common standard for all nations. I am very sure that just like me there are many people who are not aware of these human rights. Many might not even know there exists something like this and many might be aware but don’t know how important these are and how to deal with these.

My focus on these rights would be to educate the people especially kids about human rights and how it’s our responsibility to learn and exercise them and spread the word. These rights should necessarily be a part of their curriculum so that they while growing up know what are their rights as per their existence and how important is it for them to work on these.

I would request you all to please create awareness about our human rights amongst all and ensure that on this day we can arrange a seminar slot or a special session for recalling these for our existence rights every year. Thank you for being a part and encouraging me to effectively and efficiently address this topic.

Thank you!

Speech 3

Good evening my dear friends, I welcome you all to this special seminar organized on Human Rights Day!

How often do we all say that women are treated differently from men, how unsafe women are in the society, majority of the population is uneducated, there should exist no white people and black people difference, etc. etc. What does this mean?

This means that we all humans want men and women to be treated equally, we want social security for women and all others, we want everybody to be educated and we want to discriminate. We all want to make this happen. Just like these mentioned before and many more are the rights that we wish for.

These human rights have been laid down after many efforts and discussions for human beings to satisfy their basic needs. Human rights are those rights that are necessary for a dignified and decent living of humans as well as human existence and adequate development of human personality. Human rights are essential for the development of the human personality in society, where he lives.

Out of the entire audience present here, I am pretty sure that a few of them might not be completely aware of the 30 human rights universally announced by the United Nations in the year 1948. In order to safeguard humans and they’re well being, 30 specific human rights were announced. 10th December is officially celebrated as the day of human rights.

Every human right should be utilized and be adhered to. We all owe the responsibility to spread the message of these rights amongst all the people.

Among all the rights, for me, the most crucial is the Right to Education. For me, it is the birthright of everyone to get an education. There are numerous benefits to getting an education. The one who is educated has the power of changing their own lives and the lives of others as well. The right to education is the one that has the foremost importance. We all should be well aware of each of these rights, many efforts have been put in decades before to list down and propose these rights. At present, there exists a crucial step in the protection of these human rights.

We all should understand that human rights are those rights that are fundamental for the living of human beings and for the normal human existence. For every country’s government and citizens, it is very very important to protect and maintain human rights. It is their fundamental duty. We all should avail of our rights and should dedicatedly work for creating awareness amongst the population about these rights. Each of the 30 listed human rights is necessary for our well being and existence in society. I request you all to please share the message with your near and dear ones to spread the existence of these rights.

Thank you!

Speech 4

Good Morning Friends!

Thank You for taking out time and joining me at this meeting today. I wanted to share an important invitation that has come from the Local Government to our Organisation. We have been invited to support the government and join the ‘Swachh Bharat Abhiyaan’ or ‘Clean India Mission’. The campaign is run all over the town and will be launched on December 10 which is also Human Rights Day. The campaign has been run for the past year with little or no progress in the town. Thus, we have been invited to get involved and help in fulfilling the mission by obtaining better results.

Human Rights Day is the best day for its launch as the day is basically celebrated for honoring the rights of people. It calls on everybody to stand up for themselves and other’s rights. Likewise, living in a clean environment and surroundings is everyone’s right and it is important for staying healthy too. Disrespect and Insolence for basic human rights continue to exist in almost every part of our country. People litter without any value and care for others. I have seen most of the educated people, especially in parks and gardens litter carelessly despite the availability of dustbins, etc.

I strongly feel that we must restate our common humanity; a noble deed doesn’t always need financial or physical support. In fact, wherever we are, we can make a difference. On the street, in our neighborhood, at parks, schools, work, in public transport, etc. It’s time for each one of us to take a stand for our and other’s rights and together we can certainly make a difference. A small step can make a big difference. We will go to every school and college to share thoughts on cleanliness. We will also get hoardings and banners printed and hanged at the streets, parks, etc. to make people aware of the benefits of keeping the surroundings clean.

Not necessarily our gesture has to be grand; a simple step such as understanding the difference between wet and dry litter and throwing those accordingly in the correct dustbin would save so many lives. It’s important to make people understand that litters not only pollute the environment, but it also spreads several diseases such as Dengue, Malaria, and Chikungunya.

It’s a grand mission and I have already given my confirmation to the government about joining it; I am looking for volunteers who can support me throughout. I would like to make you aware that this is going to be charity work, thus you won’t get any payment apart from off-course appreciation and recognition. Also, I’ll be requiring your presence on Saturdays and Sundays when the office is closed. This may sound too much to ask for, but it’s going to last for 3 months, so your cooperation is highly solicited. There is no pressure on you guys at all, though it’s absolutely a voluntary deed. We have plans to begin this work next week; interested people may send me a mail directly. The agenda will be prepared and shared soon. You may also write to me if you want more information in this regard.

Thank You!
